Overview
Cedar Shakes and Shingles was asked to install a roof system that would provide both performance on a low slope and achieve a historical distant appearance. The projects over all look was to be the appearance of a mid-evil castle ruin. The roofing material we selected was lead coated copper because this would both provide a long lasting roof on a low slope and the color would instantly give an aged appearance to the roof itself. The application was to be in a standing seam application on a radius curved roof line. The roof was not a perfectly symmetrical radius so a panel layout design had to be performed before work could begin. The goal was to achieve a radius roof look while maintaining seam lines that would work well with both the irregular stone and the heavy beam framing. Panel widths had to be adjusted both on the radius curve and along the rafter length as well. All of this was achieved during a very tight construction time line. Custom flashing was also made to flash a special skylight system on the upper grounds which provided interior light to the underground kitchen and bath areas.
