Cedar Shakes and Shingles was contact to evaluated an existing clay tile roof and determine why the roof was failing and provide the solutions necessary to give a long lasting enjoyable roof to a very special house design. Based on inspections of both material and application it was determined that the best solution was a complete new roof replacement and a change in material with a new flashing design. New concrete tile was ordered with a special color mix to maintain the existing style and color but provide a more long lasting material. Low pitched porch roofs were also changed to copper standing seam which had the effect of highlighting the upper tile roof as well as giving lower pitched roofs better drainage. All new batten systems were installed along with custom made copper flashing for all areas of roof including valley and bottom edge flashing. New copper 6″ gutters were provided with new pitch and drainage patterns to improve the water drainage both from the roof and in the landscaped yard. Many areas of framing were rebuilt during the new roof installation after damage was found from prolonged leaking of the old roof. A new skylight was also installed with new support beams. The outcome gave the house a fresh look of both the old Spanish tile with copper accents
